About Otter Tail County and the West Central Lakes Region
Just two and a half hours from Minneapolis and St. Paul is our beautiful West Central Minnesota area known as Otter Tail County. The area is home to over 1,000 lakes and streams. That's 10 percent of Minnesota's 10,000 beautiful lakes, and a great reason to go fishing, swimming, sailing, water-skiing or just relaxing on the beach. Winter sports abound here...from snowmobiling to ice fishing. Minnesota is a great four-season state, with year-round fun!

The unique communities of Ashby, Battle Lake, Clitherall, Dalton, Erhard, Fergus Falls, Henning, New York Mills, Ottertail, Perham, Underwood and Vining are sprinkled between rolling hills and the start of the prairies of the Red River Valley. In addition to crystal clear lakes, the area is home to regional cuisine, historical sites and museums, vintage movie theaters, community centers, art galleries, extensive antique shops and unique boutiques, parks, golf courses, and more. Each community is known for their festivals, concerts and events, celebrating local history and culture.  From Dalton’s “Thresherman’s Festival” highlighting massive antique farm equipment and a recreated old time village, or Fergus Falls’ “Crazy Days” with fantastic bargains from local merchants, to music festivals that draw global attention, such as “We Fest” and “Moondance Jam,” entertainment abounds here year-round.

Tip: There is easy access to the region through Hector International Airport in Fargo, North Dakota. About an hour away on the Eastern edge of North Dakota, Hector Field features a few major airlines such as United, in a smaller, way less crowded airport!
